Explore some traditional weaving techniques used by different cultures from ancient times to the present day. Discover how these methods can be used to make individual small pieces incorporating a variety of textiles and recycled materials.

Basic materials will be supplied for this course, but you are encouraged to bring your own yarns and materials to incorporate into your woven samples.

Square Loom Weaving

A simple introduction to the principles of weaving, creating blanket squares.

Peg Loom Weaving

Create a rug or mat from yarn, sheep fleece &/or fabrics. This is a good method for recycling old clothes with sentimental value, so do bring along any fabrics that you would like to incorporate. There will be some sheep fleece and fibre available for a small charge if you wish to use these as well.

Tapestry Weaving

Use methods developed for Mediaeval wall hangings to create a small sampler.

Tablet Weaving

Create a bookmark or strap incorporating different traditional patterns.

No entry requirements.
