Machine Embridery - DCCA

Learn how to use your machine for free motion embroidery to create your own patterns and designs to decorate bags, cushions or make a picture.

Your machine will need to have the facility to lower the feed dogs (the teeth in the plate that push the material through).

You will also need a darning or embroidery foot suitable for your machine. This foot doesn’t touch the foot plate when it is lowered so allowing the fabric to be moved easily beneath it.

Things to bring for the workshop:

  • ½ metre of calico, cotton or linen in neutral colours
  • Sewing machine threads in a variety of colours
  • Sewing machine – with its instruction book, all accessories, foot pedal, lead, embroidery/darning foot, spare bobbins and the usual feet
  • Embroidery hoop (essential)– 8in diameter is a good size
  • Usual sewing kit
  • Sketch book/notebook
  • Drawing pen and pencil
